To lead the web team in developing and managing a dynamic, world-class, CMS-based website providing the company with solid usage and lead metrics. The role provides a deep insight into online user behaviour, implementing cutting-edge web 2.0 methodologies sites and managing ongoing content and design enhancements to support product launches and campaigns.
This position is based at our headquarters in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
Main duties
- Lead meetings with key business owners (corporate marketing, product marketing, field marketing and others) to collect business requirements and translate them into appropriate web/CMS design specifications for Sophos.com
- Propose, define, and evangelize key new web functions, such as widgets, blogs, RSS feeds, click-to-chat, and Flash components that support marketing and business requirements
- Define the design for Sophos.com, microsites, and other externally facing web properties, with a focus on fulfilling marketing, customer, and reseller requirements
- Create presentation prototypes/wireframes to validate user interface requirements
- Estimate level of difficulty, determine required budget, and create development schedules for building the solution components. Present plans to Director of Corporate Marketing for review and approval
- Oversee the Senior Web Developer and IT members in the creation of technical prototypes using HTML/XML/CSS/JavaScript/AJAX/SharePoint CMS
- Provide leadership and marketing insight to IT in the development of the SharePoint-based web solution and oversee outsourced development resources
- Oversee and provide guidance to the marketing content team as they migrate content from the current site to the new platform to ensure that the content and structure of the site evolves in a systematic and well thought out way
- Lead the creative teams in the design a best-of-breed site and ensure that it is remains fresh, engaging, and dynamic on an ongoing basis
- Lead the development of our Search Engine Optimisation strategy
- Identify and implement best of breed web metrics methodologies to determine the business value of all web properties and marketing assets on the web
- Lead our web marketing efforts to give greater visibility to our web site, products, and solutions on the web and 3rd party sites
- Provide training and guidance to users and solution/site administrators
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies for the site and contribute skills and knowledge to other web-based projects as determined by management
- Help define and develop software and infrastructure specifications and requirements based on customer and sales needs.
- Work as a team lead on the development of web projects
- Develop solutions to streamline business processes to achieve departmental and company-wide goals more effectively and efficiently
- Review vendor proposals, implementations, and management –assess the cost and benefits of vendor products and materials
Experience and skills
You will need to demonstrate experience of the following:
- Leading the development of complex websites in a commercial environment, through cross functional teams
- Hand-coding standards-compliant HTML and CSS
- Developing web analytics on all web assets for the purposes of clearly determining the ROI of specific web activities
- Industry-standard graphics packages and WYSYWIG HTML editors
- Proven track record of developing enhanced web functionality such as AJAX banners, widgets and dynamic content feeds
- Using of at least one templating or scripting language such as SP, JSP, PHP or ColdFusion
- Reviewing and understanding the impact of design limitations imposed by user behaviour, web browsers and computing platforms
- Writing object-oriented Javascript
Experience of the following is desirable:
- Requirements negotiation – balancing functionality vs. schedule
- Working within the MS Sharepoint 2007 CMS environment
- Building programs for tracking and monitoring customers throughout their visit to the web site
- Tracking and scoring multiple-touch online marketing activities
- Developing and working within a CMS environment
