In this role, you will be responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for both employees and visitors to Sophos Plc. You will monitor and maintain site and building security, working either individually or within a team of two.
As well as possessing good written and verbal communication skills, you will have experience of handling and resolving emergency incidents and will be comfortable with working in an environment without immediate supervision. You will also have experience of working in an environment where customer service is important and will be confident in using computer systems as a part of your day-to-day work.
This role is part of a shift system (4 shifts on, 4 shifts off), whereby you must be able to work to shift patterns to enable 24 hr coverage. Your shift pattern would include both day (7am-7pm) and night (7pm to 7am) shifts on a rolling-basis.
This position is based at our headquarters in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
Main duties
- Control access to the building using the building access systems
- Monitor CCTV cameras and footage on a regular basis, using cameras to gather evidence of incidents or activity in the vicinity of the building
- Manage incidents, including health and safety procedures and reporting procedures
- Monitor and control maintenance contractors on-site to ensure that health and safety standards are adhered to, advising employees and visitors when areas are inaccessible due to works taking place
- Monitor, identify and report on health and safety issues identified during patrols or by other employees
- Control traffic and car-parking, ensuring that speed limits and routes are adhered to, reporting incidents to the Security Supervisor
- Complete administration and reporting logs to the standards specified
- Understand and report on fire/ access control systems, reporting any faults to the Facilities Manager
- Assist with reception duties during busy periods, answering the telephone and greeting visitors
- Assist the Facilities department with maintenance and events tasks, including furniture movements, setting-up equipment and ensuring that on-site contractors are monitored
Experience and skills
You will need to demonstrate the following:
- Experience of handling and resolving emergency incidents
- Experience of working in an environment without immediate supervision
- Experience of providing good, pleasant customer service
- Basic IT literacy
- Basic Numeracy
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ten-year checkable work history
The following are desirable criteria:
- Experience of working in Security within a corporate environment, Police or military service
- Possession of a current First-Aid qualification
- Basic Health and Safety awareness
- Experience of using CCTV systems
- Experience of working in a corporate reception environment
- Knowledge of Data Protection legislation
