Microsoft issues fixes for more critical security vulnerabilities
![]() |
| Microsoft has described the vulnerabilities as critical. |
As part of its monthly patch distribution, Microsoft has issued two more critical security updates for Windows users in addition to the WMF vulnerability fix it published last week. The vulnerabilities, if left unpatched, allow hackers to run malicious code on unprotected computers.
"If left unpatched hackers could exploit these flaws in Microsoft's software and gain access to innocent people's computers in order to steal information. It's critical that businesses and home users protect against flaws like this as a matter of priority," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos. "If Microsoft is prepared to go public about critical security holes in its software the world should sit up, listen, and patch against the problem as soon as possible to ensure computers are properly defended."
Home users of Microsoft Windows can visit update.microsoft.com to have their systems scanned for critical Microsoft security vulnerabilities.
Sophos suggests that every IT manager responsible for security should consider subscribing to vulnerability mailing lists such as that operated by Microsoft at www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/notify.mspx.
Sophos continues to recommend companies protect their desktops and servers with automatically updated anti-virus protection.
