Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against viruses, spyware and spam, has today announced the appointment of Rob Forsyth to the role of Managing Director, Asia Pacific, with immediate effect.

Forsyth, who will continue to be based in Sophos's offices in Sydney, Australia, has served as Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand for the last three years. He has been promoted to drive Sophos’s Asia Pacific business, excluding Japan, at a time of great opportunity. Sophos has exceeded 50% year-on-year growth, on average across the region, since 2002.

Forsyth was appointed to the board of directors of the Internet Industry Association (IIA) in 2005 and has helped Sophos lead initiatives with its customers, the IT industry, government, law enforcement, intelligence agencies and the financial services sector to combat computer security threats, including phishing and identity theft.

He has also played a critical role in establishing Sophos’s Asia Pacific Technical Support Centre of Excellence and the SophosLabs Asia Pacific research facilities.

"Rob's extensive experience has helped Sophos achieve an impressive market position in Australia and New Zealand, and I am delighted that he will now be heading up our operations across the Asia Pacific region," said Steve Munford, CEO of Sophos. "Security threats are changing rapidly and Sophos is well placed to give leadership and grow strongly as the market evolves."

Prior to joining Sophos in 2001, Forsyth spent five years with SOCOG (the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games) as Programme Manager for Workforce Planning and Industrial Relations. In this role, he was responsible for the planning and management involved in filling more than 180,000 paid, volunteer and contract positions. He was also responsible for the site management of the Blacktown softball and baseball facilities during the Games.

Sophos has also appointed Jim Dowling as Director of Sales, Asia. In this newly created position, he will be based in Singapore and will report directly to Rob Forsyth. Dowling is responsible for driving Sophos’s business development and channel activities throughout Asia, except Japan, where he has a wealth of experience.

Dowling has previously held senior sales and channel management roles in Singapore, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Most recently was with IBM Asia Pacific for four years. He has also held regional roles with TechPacific, BHP and Pasminco.
