Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against viruses, spyware and spam, has announced the appointment of Jan Jivmark as director of global marketing. Jivmark will be responsible for leading the strategic development of marketing activities worldwide. His position will be key in driving forward the company’s continued aggressive growth.

Based at Sophos's headquarters in Abingdon, near Oxford, Jivmark joins the company from Novell, where he held the position of director of marketing since 2001. This role followed impressive career progression within the company, in which he was employed for ten years. Prior to Novell, Jivmark held senior marketing positions at 3Com, Apple Computer and Hewlett Packard, where he began his career as a systems engineer.

"As a market leader in computer security, Sophos is well positioned to increase its exposure in a number of markets around the world. I am delighted to accept the role of director of global marketing and look forward to the challenges ahead," said Jivmark.

Having embarked on his career in a technical role before moving into business and communications, Jivmark gained an in-depth understanding about how technically driven companies can market themselves successfully.

"I feel well placed to lead my teams in conveying Sophos's key messages on a global scale," Jivmark continued.

"As Sophos continues to expand its security offering, we want to ensure that our message is strong and consistent," said Steve Munford, CEO at Sophos. "Jan's background makes him the ideal candidate to take Sophos’s marketing activities to the next level, and we are very pleased to welcome him to the team."
