Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows Vista wins VB100 award Independent comparative test reveals quality of Sophos solution

VB100
Sophos Anti-Virus has won the VB100 award again

Sophos, a world leader in IT security and control, today announced that Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows Vista has been awarded the accolade of VB100 by Virus Bulletin magazine. This is the 36th time that Sophos Anti-Virus has won a prestigious VB100 award, confirming its ability to detect 100% of the viruses in the wild, and its position as one of the most powerful virus protection products available.

Virus Bulletin tested 15 different anti-virus products for their detection rates, lack of false alarms, and speed of scanning on the 32-bit Microsoft Windows Vista Business Edition. Sophos successfully detected all of the in-the-wild viruses with no false alarms, outperforming a number of other vendors including Microsoft and McAfee.

"Sophos made much, during the recent brouhaha over access to details of the inner workings of Vista, of how well prepared its developers have been for the launch, and playing briefly with this version shows the boasts were pretty justified," wrote John Hawes, technical consultant in the February 2007 edition of Virus Bulletin. "Installation was fast and slick, with just the one standard request for admin rights, and once installed the controls seemed properly suited to the UAC, with most configuration options blocked for the normal user and accessible only to the administrator... at last I had found a product where everything seemed to just work."

"Companies upgrading to Windows Vista still require anti-virus protection, so it's important that independent bodies conduct these sorts of tests," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos. "Sophos customers can rest assured that if they upgrade their PCs to Vista they can still rely on the very best protection against the rising tide of malware."

All Sophos products use the same technology to protect against viruses, worms, spyware, Trojan horses and other malware, ensuring consistently high detection rates across all platforms.

About the Virus Bulletin 100% award

The Virus Bulletin 100% awards recognise those products best able to detect viruses known to be 'in the wild'. Unlike some other similar-sounding schemes, Virus Bulletin uses the most up-to-date WildList in its tests. This means that products that are 'up with the game' are the ones most likely to be granted VB100 awards. More information about Virus Bulletin can be found on its website: www.virusbtn.com.
