How to check which Sophos product version is installed

1. Sophos Anti-Virus

Windows computers

Windows computers could be running the current versions of Sophos Anti-Virus:

or they could be running obsolete versions of Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 and Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 95/98/Me.

  1. Look at the system tray in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
    • Is there a shield icon in it (blue, gray, or black)? Go to 2.
    • Is there a flash (sloping 'N') in either red or gray in it? See Sophos Anti-Virus old versions, below.
    • You can't see either? Go to 5.
  2. Right-click the shield.
    • If the item at the bottom of the menu says 'Launch Sophos Anti-Virus' go to 3.
    • If the item at the bottom of the menu says 'Open Sophos Anti-Virus', go to 4.
  3. This is Sophos Anti-Virus Small Business Edition, version 1. To check, click 'Launch Sophos Anti-Virus', and from the menu bar select Help|About. The version name and number are listed there.
    This version is obsolete. You should upgrade to a current version.
  4. This is Sophos Anti-Virus, current version. To check, click 'Open Sophos Anti-Virus', and from the menu bar at the top of the window, select 'About Sophos Anti-Virus'. Your Sophos Anti-Virus version number is given. The virus data version number will also be listed.
    If there is a brick wall icon in the system tray, Sophos Client Firewall is also installed. Right-click this icon and select 'About' to obtain the Sophos Client Firewall version number.
  5. Either Sophos Anti-Virus is not installed, or your on-access scanner or its monitor (the icon) is not running. You can still find out which version is installed, but you should check your installation afterwards.
    • In the bottom left-hand corner of the screen click 'Start|Programs|Sophos...' and open Sophos Anti-Virus. The details of this process differ between versions.
    • In the menu bar at the top of the window, select Help|About...
      The details of the version number you are using will be displayed. (Again, the method of accessing this window may vary.)

Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows, obsolete versions

Open the Sophos Anti-Virus user interface and from the 'Help' menu select 'About...'. The version number is on the first line.

The version number for the obsolete versions for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 and Windows 95/98/Me, is also recorded in the SWEEP LOG file.

If you are runninrg one of these obsolete version of Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows, you should upgrade.

Macintosh OS X

Highlight the Sophos Anti-Virus icon. From the 'File' menu, select 'Get Info...' and then 'General information'. The version number is displayed in the dialog box.

The version number of Sophos Anti-Virus is also recorded in the SWEEP LOG file.

Novell NetWare

The version number is displayed in the title of the Sophos Anti-Virus console screen.

Command line interface versions

The version number is displayed when Sophos Anti-Virus is run.

2. Sophos Control Center

Open the Sophos Control Center and select Help|About Sophos Control Center.

3. EM Library

Open C:\Program Files\Sophos\Enterprise Manager\Readem.txt

4. Enterprise Console

Open Enterprise Console and select Help|About Sophos Enterprise Console.

5. MailMonitor for SMTP - Windows, version 1.xx

Open C:\Program Files\Sophos\MailMonitor\SMTP\Readme.txt

6. MailMonitor for SMTP - UNIX, version 1.xx

7. MailMonitor for SMTP - UNIX, version 2.xx

From the web interface, click 'Support'. The version and build numbers are listed there.
