Advisory: SAV Interface - issues with NetIQ MailMarshal when updating from Sophos Anti-Virus 3.87.0 to 3.88.0

This product is nearing retirement. We strongly recommend that you upgrade in order to ensure your protection stays fully up to date.

A number of customers have reported issues when updating NetIQ MailMarshal from SAV Interface version 3.87.0 to version 3.88.0. The error below can be present in the NetIQ MailMarshal log file MMengine.log:

'unexpected error: LoadVirusData failed 0xa0040223'

What to do

To restart SAV Interface:

  1. Stop the MailMarshal Engine service.
  2. At the taskbar, select Start|Run.
  3. Type
    \\<server>\INTERCHK\NTINST\I386\SETUP.EXE -NI
    where <server> is the name of the computer running EM Library, or holding the Central Installation Directory (CID).
  4. Click 'OK'.
  5. Start the MailMarshal Engine service.

Changes have been made to Sophos Anti-Virus in version 3.88.0 to help reduce update issues of this nature.
