Enterprise Console: installation of Sophos AutoUpdate failed [0x00000008]

When using the 'Protect new computers wizard' to install Sophos Anti-Virus on to a computer on which it is already installed, the following alert may be generated:

"Installation of Sophos Autoupdate failed [0x00000008]"

What to do

  1. Stop the 'Sophos AutoUpdate Agent' service. You can do this in one of the following ways:

  2. Re-run the 'Protect new computers wizard'. Sophos Anti-Virus should install successfully, and automatically restart the 'Sophos AutoUpdate Agent' service.
