EM Library: cannot create a remote library from a console on a Windows XP computer
If the EM Library console is installed on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) computer, and an attempt to create a remote library is made, one of two error messages is generated.
Installation failed, please check the event log (on the remote machine) for error information.
Could Not Install Remotely: The system cannot find the file specified. (2)
The second error message will only be generated on a computer with Simple File Sharing enabled.
These error messages will also be generated where a remote EM Library console is used to install a remote library onto a Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) computer.
What to do
- If you saw the second error message, disable Simple File Sharing, then do as follows.
- If you saw the first error message, edit the security options in Local Security Policy:
- Select Start|Control Panel.
- Select 'Performance and Maintenance'.
- Select 'Administrative Tools'.
- Select 'Local Security Policy'.
- Select Local Policy|Security Options.
- Double-click 'DCOM: Machine Access Restrictions ...'.
- Click 'Edit Security'.
- Click the user 'Anonymous Logon'.
- For Remote Access, select 'Allow'.
- Double-click 'DCOM: Machine Launch Restrictions ...'.
- Click 'Edit Security'.
- Click the user 'Everyone'.
- For Remote Launch, select 'Allow'.
- For Remote Activation, select 'Allow'.
- Click 'OK' twice.
You should now be able to create a remote library successfully.
