Sophos Client Firewall: delay in opening configuration editor and log viewer

When starting up the configuration editor and log viewer, Sophos Client Firewall checks the account name for each SID in the appropriate Sophos groups. If a group contains a SID that cannot be resolved to a name (i.e. the user no longer exists) this operation can take up to 15 seconds to fail. This will cause a significant delay.

This issue will be fixed in a future version of Sophos Client Firewall.

What to do

To remove the relevant SID:

  1. Log on with administrator rights (local or domain).
  2. Open 'Groups' in 'Administrative Tools'.
  3. In the right hand pane, double-click each Sophos group in turn to see the users in that group.
  4. If the group contains an unresolved SID (one without a name), select it.
  5. Click 'Remove', and then click 'OK'.
