Enterprise Console: How to test for database connectivity
Issue
How to test database connectivity, if, for example,
- You are experiencing installation problems for applications that depend on the MSDE SOPHOS instance.
- One of your computers appears not to have a connection to your database.
What to do
Perform the following tests. If errors are displayed, make a note of which of the tests produced errors and record the error messages in full. You should then contact Sophos Technical Support, ensuring that you have all this information to hand.
- On the computer which appears to have lost its connection to the database, create a file in textpad (or another text editor) and call it Test.udl
- Double-click the test.udl file, the dialog box opens.
- Test 1:
- In the dialog box, select 'Test Connection'.
- If there is an error make an accurate record of the error displayed.
- If no error is displayed perform test 2.
- Test 2:
- From the 'Select database on the server' drop-down list, select one of the following,
- If you have Enterprise Console version 2, Select 'SOPHOS2'.
- If you have Enterprise Console version 3, Select 'SOPHOS3'.
- In the dialog box, select 'Test Connection'.
- If there is an error make an accurate record of the error displayed.
