Sophos Client Firewall: Firefox should be added to the hidden processes list
If you use Firefox as your web browser, and you are using Sophos Client Firewall, you will need to add the program firefox.exe to the hidden processes list.
This is because currently Firefox will sometimes need to launch itself after an update.
What to do
Make the following changes to your Sophos Client Firewall configuration:
- Select the Processes tab.
- Click the 'Add' button next to the upper pane (launch hidden processes).
- Browse to firefox.exe.
- Double-click the file firefox.exe. This will add firefox.exe to the list.
- Select the Checksums tab.
- Click 'Add'.
- In the window, double-click firefox.exe. (It will be added to the bottom of the checksums list.)
Technical details
After you do one of the following:
- install an extension
- remove an extension
- update Firefox
- create a new profile
the first time Firefox is launched, it needs to check for extension compatibility (specifically XPCOM components).
After this check, it needs to restart XPCOM to load the new components. Firefox does not currently have restartable XPCOM, so this involves Firefox calling itself.
