Sophos Anti-Virus SBE: version 2.x - Sophos Control Center installation fails with the error Microsoft Visual C++ Debug LibraryDebug Assertion failed

When you try to install Sophos Control Center, version 2.0.0, the following error is displayed:

Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library
Debug Assertion failed
Program C:\Program Files\Sophos\SCC\Dcomperm.exe

This error is seen if you are trying to install the Sophos Control Center into a multiple domain controller environment, but the computer you are installing on lacks a specific Microsoft component, known as the Primary Domain Controller Flexible Single Master Operation Role (PDC FSMO).

A fix for this issue will be available in Sophos Small Business Solutions, version 2.0.1.

What to do

We recommend that you install the Sophos Control Center onto a different computer, the one known by Windows as the 'Operations master'.
If you cannot install the Sophos Control Center onto another computer, you will need to move the Operations master. This is described below.

    1. Open Windows Control Panel, and select 'Administrative Tools'.
    2. Select 'Active Directory Users and Computers', right-click your domain, and select 'Operations master'.
    3. Select the PDC tab. Note the name of the computer which is the Operations master.
    4. Click 'OK' to exit.

You should now install Sophos Control Center on that computer.

    1. Open Windows Control Panel, and select 'Administrative Tools'.
    2. Select 'Active Directory Users and Computers', right-click your domain, and select 'Operations master'.
    3. Select the PDC tab. Click 'Change' and change the Operations master to the name of the computer on which you want to install Sophos Control Center.
    4. Click 'OK'.

You can now proceed with installing Sophos Control Center on that computer.
